Andre Heimgartner is well on his way to becoming car racing's next wunderkind.
With a national championship under his belt by fifteen, and a spot on the Super Black Racing team by twenty, his star continues to rise on the racing circuit.
This month, stratton is offering one lucky fan the chance to get up-close with Heimgartner as they brave a V8 Hot Lap at Melbourne's Sandown 500.
We caught up with him in the lead-up to Sandown for a quick chat.
When did you realise racing cars was your calling?
I used to follow my Dad around New Zealand where he would race sports sedans, and I guess that's where I got the bug. When he bought me a go-kart I started racing myself, and then it just grew and grew.
Career highlight so far?
My career highlight so far? I'm still pretty young, so hopefully there's a few good ones to come - but I'd say coming in seventh in the Top Ten Shootout at the Townsville 500 back in 2015 was pretty incredible.
What is one thing car lovers might be surprised to know about the life of a racing car driver?
Like any sport, it's very hard to be successful. There's a lot of hard work and effort that goes into it behind the scenes. You have to be in great mental and physical shape to be at your best behind the wheel. It's a full-time job, you're not just turning up on the weekend to go racing.
What can our winner expect from a V8 experience with you?
I think it's going to be an eye opening experience, especially for someone who has watched V8's for a while. I think that by sitting in the passenger seat, they will really get a greater appreciation for how fast these cars really are.
Want to win the chance to sit passenger-side with Andre in your very own Hot Lap experience at the Sandown 500 this September?
