Has there been any aspect of life that the pandemic hasn’t buggered up in some way? We could go on for a while about everything that’s essentially stuffed but we’d be here all day, and chances are you’re well-versed in all of it anyway.
We live cars. We breathe cars. We know cars. So we’ll focus on the effects it’s currently having on the new car market. Namely due to the global semiconductor shortage.
What’s the issue?
Righto, so long story short, in the first half of 2020 there was a slowing down in car production worldwide. Off the back of this, computer chip (semiconductor) manufacturers who would normally be focusing on the auto industry shifted their attention over to personal electronics instead.
Then, once things headed back to normal in the back end of 2020, there wasn’t nearly enough of an allocation of computer chips available to meet the auto industry’s demand.
When’s it going to be sorted out?
While it was speculated that this chip shortage problem would be solved in the second half of 2021 which would of course mean the extreme new car shortage issue would also be rectified, it is now being said that it’s going to continue to be a problem into 2022.
Are all car manufacturers affected?
Thankfully, not every brand across the globe has been negatively affected by this ongoing chip shortage.
The following manufacturers are the ones you might need to make an order as soon as possible if you’re planning on taking it for a long, well-deserved drive once lockdowns are lifted (or have revised their models to cater for the issue):
- Land Rover
So if you’re thinking about buying one of the above models, it’s a great idea to have a chat with the dealerships to find out a bit more about which particular models have been affected and how long wait times are currently for delivery. If you’d prefer to bypass dealerships though, have a chat with our industry partners at carconnect on 1300 880 008 - they’ll do all the groundwork and suss out the specifics of the make and model you’re keen on.
Is there actually anything to look forward to?
Ohhhh mate. Absolutely! The new Subaru WRX, Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, new-look Ford Ranger and Everest models with V6 turbo diesel engines, updated Tesla Model S Plaid, AMG GT Black Series, Nissan Patrol Warrior, Toyota GR86 with new 2.4L engine, Nissan Z 3L twin-turbo V6, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS in 7-speed MANUAL...
And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg! So let’s just enjoy what the future brings - whatever that may be - and if that means ordering yourself a brand spanking new set of wheels then not only will we not judge; we’ll help guide you through the entire process with ease.
