Halloween is upon us, and we're gearing up for a night at home with the lights out watching a catalogue of scary movies, and the cars they feature.

From cars with villainous minds of their own, to the ones used to drive to safety - these are the films we'll be watching (through our fingers) tonight.

Christine Red Plymouth Fury

Christine

1958 Red Plymouth Fury

In the film based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, Christine follows the story of a 1958 Red Plymouth Fury possessed by the devil wreaking havoc on a small town. Whether Christine is crushing people in the fold-down seat, running them down in tight alley ways, or exploding gas stations and incinerating customers - Christine is bad news...that looks so good!

Jurassic Park Ford Explorer

Jurassic Park

Ford Explorer XLT

For the first, innocent, thirty minutes of the film, everyone wanted one of these green and yellow Ford Explorers. Built as a way to explore the dinosaur enclosures of Jurassic Park in complete safety on an electric rail, taking a ride in one of these was every child's (and grown-up's) dream. That was until the power got shut off, the cars were unable to move, and a T-Rex made extremely short work of them.

Psycho Ford Custom 300

Psycho

1957 Ford Custom 300

Before taking that fateful shower at the Bates Motel, Marion Crane was on her way to Fairvale with a stolen $40,000 in the back of her 1957 Ford Custom 300. She sought refuge at the motel to rest for the night, and befriends the owner, Norman Bates. Marion never makes it out of that shower, thanks to Bates and his large knife. Who then puts her in the trunk of the Ford, and pushes it into a swamp.

Death Race Movie Cars

Death Race

2006 Ford Mustang GT, 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD, 1980 Porsche 911...

There were as many cars as there were explosions in Death Race; a gladiator-style car race to the death for prisoners serving time at the Terminal Island Penitentiary. Amongst a plethora of hotted-up cars with extensive armour and weaponry upgrades, there was a 2006 Ford Mustang GT, a 2004 Dodge Ram and a 1980 Porsche 911, all with one intention: eliminate the competition at any cost.

Hitcher Movie Poster

The Hitcher

This movie didn't feature a car that made us want one of our own, in fact, it made us never want to get in a car ever again! The 1986 film (and 2007 remake) followed a protagonist trying to enjoy a simple cross-country roadtrip. Cue picking up a hitchhiker, the hitchhiker terrorising him at every turn, and a whole lot of bloodshed on the car's interior. We've never been able to look at a raised thumb on the side of the road the same again.
