On the back of massive job cuts and shutdowns, Holden has announced a profit of $152.8 million for 2016.

The company, who will halt all Australian manufacturing later this year, announced their best result since 2004.

Holden - Aussie Icon

The brand, which sold almost 95,000 cars in the past year, has seen a much-needed sales boost in both their Trax and Trailblazer SUV models, which both achieved record sales numbers in 2016.

Holden chairman and managing director, Mark Bernhard, has said there is no "sugar-coating" the challenges that will continue to face the brand, but said off the back of these results, that Holden will prove to be more profitable as a vehicle importer.

Profits look set to continue to rise in the next year, as the $130 million-dollar sale of the brands Port Melbourne-based engine assembly plant will be included in their 2017 report.

Holden have high-hopes for 2017 and beyond, with thousands of Australians still employed by the car brand in their Port Melbourne corporate headquarters, and throughout their dealer network nationwide.
